Here is what my friend, the founder of The Virtual Dinner Guest Project, Eric Maddox shared on his facebook page:

Wonder what it would be like to spend an afternoon walking around the streets of Gaza and asking every stranger you met one question, any question, the BIGGEST question? That’s essentially what our team there just did… while another team did the same in Rotterdam. Please take a few minutes to check out and share the results. This is by far the coolest video we’ve ever produced… and it was done under some of the most challenging circumstances imaginable. I can take none of the credit. Our team team in Gaza managed everything on their own.

It’s been more than six years since I first conceived of The Virtual Dinner Guest Project. In that time it’s gone through a lot of changes, and the concept is still evolving. What started out as a dinner conversation between residents of Cd. Juárez, Mexico and Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA, has since traversed 5 continents, and connected communities in 20 countries for close to 80 events (I’ve actually lost count).

This latest project was by far one of the most challenging that I’ve ever undertaken, on both sides, and the results are by far the best that our participants have ever produced. The connection between residents of Gaza, Palestine, and Rotterdam, Holland was facilitated by my dear friend Isra Miqdad, whom I met during my short trip to Gaza, back in 2013. She and the team at Ain Media had to overcome massive power cuts throughout, not to mention all of the other challenges that accompany living under a state of siege, with all land, air, and sea access shut off for the past ten years. The project was sponsored by the Arab Film Festival in Holland, where we also screened the films last Sunday.

You can also watch this and all of our other films on our website: OpenRoadsMedia.org

Our Virtual Dinner guests in Holland asked the people of Gaza to make a film that answered the following question:

“What are your dreams? What are the main obstacles to achieving them? How will you overcome those obstacles?”

The film from the Rotterdam side will be posted in the coming days (Gaza asked Rotterdam “What’s the biggest problem in the world and how would you solve it?”).

If you want to learn about what life is like in Gaza, what people *want* life to be like in Gaza, and how the siege and perceptions about the Palestinian community have directly impacted the lives of real people then all of us invite you to watch and PLEASE share this video EVERYWHERE.

Who Will Be The Next Family .. ? #LestWeForget #Gaza

Can’t believe it has been three years now since the ‘israeli’ aggression happened summer 2014. Like today, my family and I were still at our friends house (we had to leave our house after being damaged for three times) going to a ‘safer’ place. It was the third day of eid holiday and of course it was #eid_shaheed as everyone described it. Sisters had to stay at home and few men went to pray eid salah. Two days later Rafah massacre happened and there were about 50 shaheeds! It was the 26th day of the aggression, and we didn’t know that it will last for another 15 days! So many things happened that I just can’t write and describe.

Thinking of all this, I thank Allah that He blessed me with life after going through all such dreadful experiences. Here is a piece of writing I shared describing what we went through:

Source: Who Will Be The Next Family .. ?

“Allah is with the patient”

AsSalaam alikum,

“O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer.
Indeed, Allah is with the patient.” (Qur’an, 2:153)

Thinking deeply of this verse, I think the solution that is put for those who are suffering is so hard. Allah is telling them to seek help through 1. patience and 2. prayer!

Allah in the same chapter says:

“And we surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient,” (Qur’an, 2:155)

Who are the patient? how did Allah the Almighty descibe them? He says, they are the patient,

“Who, when disaster strikes them, say, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.” (Qur’an, 2:156)

When you feel depressed, just recite, “There is no deity excepy You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.” as the man of the fish (Prophet Yunus- peace be upon him) said while he was in the belly of the whale!

When you feel that you are conned by people around you, recite, “I entrust my affar to Allah. Indeed, Allah is Seeing of [His] servants.”

When you are afraid of something, recite, “Sufficient for us is Allah, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs.”

Ya allah make us among those who have beauiful paitence. Amen.

To Bilal (3) – The hidden mercy!

Ya Bilal,

Know that:

“Allah may purify the believers [through trials] and destroy the disbelievers.”
Quran 3: 141

And purification is to cleanse ones self from sins that we do in public and in secret.

Know that Allah wants to purify us so that He knows who are the true believers and who are the hypocrites.

“Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while Allah has not yet made evident those of you who fight in His cause and made evident those who are steadfast?”
Quran 3: 142

You will go through obstacles and tribulations and you will be tested with fear, health, life and family members, as in that what you are going through is a great trial from your Lord.

So be patient.

Ya Bilal, Allah said,

“[He] who created death and life to test you[as to] which of you is best in deed.”
Quran 67: 2

This worldly life is only a temporary enjoyment, and that the Hereafter is the home of permanent settlement.

Ya Bilal, as long as you are firm on the deen, you are in a great blessing, so thank Allah for it. And remember the hidden mercy in every trial you go through.

WasSalaam,

Isra
